Just weeks after announcing its latest pair of premium smartphones, Motorola is back at it with two new budget-friendly devices.
The thriftier of the pair is the new Moto G56 5G. Built around a 6.7-inch LCD screen with a 120Hz refresh rate, the device comes armed with a dual-lens setup on the back that pairs up a 50MP wide-angle setup with a secondary 8MP ultrawide lens.
Then, under the hood, the Moto G56 5G is powered by a MediaTek Dimensity 7060 processor, 8GB of RAM, and a 5200mAh battery. Storage-wise, the device comes with 256GB as standard, with support for expansion via MicroSD.
There aren't too many premium perks here, just the usual stereo Dolby Atmos speakers, headphone jack, in-display fingerprint sensor, plus a 32MP selfie camera, 30W fast-charging charging and IP68/IP69 water resistance.
The one odd detail out here is that the Moto G56 is shipping with only a single OS update and just three years of security updates. This represents a significant step backward from what Motorola's other budget-friendly devices have offered. For instance, the only slightly more expensive Moto G75 promises a full five years of OS updates and six years of security updates.
It's a similar story when it comes to the Moto G86 Power. Compared to its cheaper sibling, this smartphone comes with a faster Dimensity 7300 processor, a nicer 6.7-inch AMOLED screen with 10-bit color and Super HD resolution, plus a bigger 6720mAh battery.
Unfortunately, one area where the Moto G86 Power slips is memory. Like the Moto G56, this device comes with 8GB of RAM. Unlike that device however, it only comes 128GB of on-board storage. Another subtractions here is the headphone jack.
Otherwise, the list of features remains much the same. There's a set of stereo Dolby Atmos speakers, IP68/IP69 water resistance, an in-display fingerprint sensor, 30W fast charging, and a dual-lens rear camera that combines a 50MP main lens with an 8MP ultrawide one.
Like the Moto G56, the Moto G86 Power comes with just one year of OS updates and three years of security updates. Both devices are available from this week through JB Hi-Fi, Harvey Norman, Officeworks, The Good Guys, Bing Lee, Mobileciti, Amazon, and the Motorola Australia website.
In Australia, the Moto G56 starts at $399 while the Moto G86 Power starts at $499. A cheaper version of the former priced at $299 is slated to come to Optus and Vodafone at a later date.
At the time of writing, neither of the two device isn't available to buy on a plan through carriers. If you're planning to pick it up anyway, you'll need to pair it up with a SIM-only plan like those seen in the widget below.
