Aussie Broadband is ditching data caps across its range of SIM-only mobile plans.

Where the provider would previously cut customers off after exhausting their monthly data allowance, its mobile customers will now be able to stay connected at a slower 1.5Mbps rather than they'd usually get from the provider. For reference, those on Aussies cheapest SIM only plan are looking at speeds of up to 100Mbps while the alternatives cap out at 150Mbps.

This change puts Aussie Broadband in line with a number of other mobile providers who have ditched data caps in favor excess free data allowances in recent years. That list includes not just the big three - Optus, Telstra and Vodafone - but also smaller providers like Dodo Mobile and Belong.

What these providers are offering isn't truly unlimited data but often referred to as endless data or excess charge free data. You still have a monthly allowance, but if you go beyond that you won't be cut off. Instead, you're just subject to a speed limit. Depending on your connectivity needs, that catch might not be a deal-breaker though.

Of course, if you want a truly unlimited data mobile plan in Australia, there's only one option that fits the description.

Typically priced at $40 per month, the Felix's Unlimited Mobile Plan is powered by the Vodafone 4G and 5G network and will let you download as much as you want every month. The only catch is that your speeds are capped at 20Mbps. That's fast enough for more everyday tasks but might not be the best set up for those looking to stream in 4K or download larger files.

Even so, you can get 50% off the usual price for the first three months if you use the code FELIX50 when you sign up. This temporarily brings the cost down from $40 per month to just $20 per month. Once the honeymoon ends, you'll be paying the regular price but there's no lock-in so you can always shop around and look for a cheaper option.
