Aussie Broadband is selling its budget NBN brand to Tangerine for an estimated $8 million.

Announced as part of the company's latest financial results, Aussie is parting ways with Buddy Telco just a year after launching the brand. Although Tangerine will acquire both the brand and its 14,000 or so customers as part of this transaction, the sale isn't expect expected to complete until the first half of 2026.

Speaking to WhistleOut Australia, an Aussie Broadband spokesperson said that "Buddy will continue to operate as per normal until the transition".

This isn't the only exchange between the two NBN providers being announced this week. In addition to the above, there was also a new wholesale partnership between Tangerine and Aussie Broadband unveiled that will see all Tangerine NBN and More NBN customers migrated onto the Aussie Broadband wholesale network in the first half of 2026.

Despite these changes, both Tangerine and More will continue to operate their own customer service. Buddy Telco customers will also remain on Aussie's infrastructure as part of the agreement, which has a six-year term.

Speaking about the partnership, Aussie Broadband Group CEO Brian Maher said that the agreement demonstrated Aussie’s leading position in the wholesale segment and represented a new avenue of the growth for the company.

"We are delighted to partner with More and Tangerine and really excited for the growth opportunities that this partnership presents."

"Our engagement to date has cemented in my mind the complementarity of our partnership and our similar views on the importance of the end customer – we look forward to delivering great outcomes for More and Tangerine customers, together," he said.

Meanwhile, More and Tangerine CEO Andrew Branson cited Aussie's strong partnering culture and network as key factors behind the partnership.

“We were most impressed with their approach to collaboration and flexibility, which became very evident during our discussions; we felt genuinely heard and look forward to the opportunities and solutions we will build together to support our growth aspirations for More and Tangerine," he said.
