What is the Simply Fiber Internet plan?

The Simply Fiber Internet plan is Quantum Fiber’s low-income internet option. Simply Fiber Internet offers high-speed connectivity for just $30 a month.

Simply Fiber Internet includes the following:

  • 200Mbps of fiber internet speed
  • Free equipment
  • No annual contract
  • No cancellation fee
  • 9% reliability (according to Quantum Fiber)

The Affordable Connectivity Program used to provide struggling households with financial internet assistance, but when it concluded, some families were left foundering. Simply Fiber Internet is an excellent alternative to low-income internet programs (although some still exist after the ACP’s expiration).

To qualify for Simply Fiber Internet, a member of your household needs to participate in one of these programs:

  • Federal Public Housing Assistance (PHA)
  • HeadStart
  • Low-Income Home Energy Assistance Program (LIHEAP)
  • Medicare
  • National School Lunch Program (NSLP)
  • Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP)
  • Social Security Income (SSI)
  • Temporary Assistance for Needy Families (TANF)
  • Women, Infants, and Children (WIC)
  • Veteran's Pension or Survivor's Benefits

Simply Fiber is exactly what it sounds like: Basic fiber internet that covers all your standard internet needs. It even includes free equipment.

Simply Fiber has the fastest speed I’ve seen with a low-income plan—Its 200Mbps speed is a particularly good deal. I typically recommend 300Mbps to 500Mbps for every household, so Simply Fiber falls slightly short of that standard. Still, 200Mbps isn’t bad—it’s double the pace required for a high-speed internet connection.

Info Box

You can combine the federal Lifeline discount with Simply Fiber Internet. Qualifying households get $9.25 off the cost of their internet or phone bill.

Is the Quantum Fiber Price for Life guarantee worth it?

Quantum Fiber offers a Price for Life guarantee, which is exactly what it sounds like—and apparently, the promise includes Simply Fiber Internet. So if you sign up for Simply Fiber Internet, you can keep that speed and price for as long as you stay with Quantum Fiber, although it’s unclear whether you need to provide ongoing proof of eligibility.

In other words, the Price for Life guarantee is worth it if you can get it. No internet price hikes sounds like a dream!

What if you don't qualify for Simply Fiber Internet?

If you don’t qualify for Simply Fiber Internet, you might still be able to sign up for Quantum Fiber. Quantum offers a couple of plans with relatively low prices, like the 200 Mbps plan that starts at $45 a month. (Quantum Fiber plans and prices vary based on location, so not every option is available everywhere.)

While these plans certainly cost more than Simply Fiber Internet, they’re still a decent deal, especially considering that the average monthly cost of fiber internet is $81.27. I’m especially partial to the 500 Mbps plan; 500Mbps for $50 a month is an excellent deal that liberally covers the internet needs of most households.

But if that’s too expensive for you, there are bound to be cheaper internet options at your location.

How do I apply for Quantum Fiber’s low-income internet plans?

To apply for Simply Fiber Internet, check if you’re in a Quantum Fiber service area. Once you confirm your location, complete a quick eligibility form and purchase your Simply Fiber Internet plan. Easy-peasy.

How do I lower my Quantum Fiber Internet bill?

Even if you can’t get a low-income plan from Quantum Fiber, there are ways to still get a great deal on high-speed internet for an affordable price.

Tip 1: Switch to a slower plan

Most of Quantum Fiber’s plans provide internet speeds of 940Mbps, but most households need around 500Mbps. So if you have a higher-speed plan, you might be able to save money by downgrading to a slower (and cheaper!) option.

Tip 2: Negotiate with Quantum Fiber

Sometimes internet service providers cut you a deal if you call and ask nicely, so you may be able to save money if you reach out to Quantum directly. Just let the rep know that you’d like to keep the service but may be financially unable to, then see what happens.
