Find out whether Verizon has strong coverage in your area (and what the alternatives are)
How Good is Verizon’s Coverage? See the 5G & 4G LTE Map
Choosing dependable coverage is a big part of picking a wireless provider, which begs the question, “How good is Verizon’s coverage?”
Happily, Verizon operates one of the largest and most reliable 4G LTE networks in the country. It also offers incredibly fast 5G coverage, although that’s more nuanced (one kind of Verizon 5G is more accessible than the other).

What is Verizon 5G Ultra Wideband?
Verizon 5G Ultra Wideband is the fastest 5G option that Verizon has to offer. It’s also a lot less widespread than Verizon 5G Nationwide. On Verizon’s coverage map, 5G Ultra Wideband is represented by the pulsing red dots.
What is Verizon 5G Nationwide?
Verizon 5G Nationwide is Verizon’s most available 5G option. On this map, Nationwide is rolled up with 5G Ultra Wideband, 4G LTE, and Satellite SMS services under All Coverage, represented by a salmon color. Because Verizon parcels all those services together on the map, it’s unclear where 5G Nationwide is actually available.
What is Verizon 4G LTE?
Last of all, we have Verizon 4G LTE. Verizon 4G LTE is available for devices that can’t access 5G networks. Like 5G Nationwide, 4G LTE is part of the salmon-colored All Coverage option on the Verizon coverage map.
How Verizon's coverage compares to T-Mobile and AT&T
Verizon’s wireless coverage is the best in the U.S. Between 5G Ultra Wideband, 5G Nationwide, 4G LTE, and Satellite SMS, its wireless coverage blankets most of the country. But T-Mobile’s and AT&T’s networks still have their charms. Let’s talk about how they compare.
Verizon vs. T-Mobile coverage
T-Mobile’s network comes close to Verizon’s, but its rural coverage isn’t as robust.
The biggest difference is that T-Mobile’s extensive 5G network covers around half of U.S. ground, while Verizon’s 5G network lags far behind at around 21%.

Meanwhile, the AT&T network also offers more 5G coverage than Verizon, while its 4G LTE coverage area is nearly the same.

Testing Verizon coverage maps accuracy
Looking at this piece, you might wonder, “How accurate are Verizon’s coverage maps, anyway?” To get the answer, I compared Verizon’s map with an FCC map, which uses verification and other data alongside Verizon’s information.
I found that Verizon’s coverage map is actually pretty accurate, jibing nicely with the FCC’s data. So when Verizon says it offers service in a specific area, you can confidently believe it.
Get Verizon’s coverage for a lower price
Enamored with Verizon’s extensive network but not its prices? I can help with ways to lower your Verizon cell phone bill.
My top tip for saving money on Verizon coverage is to try Visible, a Verizon-owned MVNO. Visible uses the same network as Verizon proper, but it costs less money—a lot less. And if Visible doesn’t float your boat, there are other Verizon MVNOs that you can try.
You can also save money with Verizon by signing up for Auto Pay and paperless billing, signing up for a multi-line plan with family or friends, or negotiating with Verizon representatives, to name a few options.
