Typically, the cheapest Comcast Xfinity internet plan is its 50 Mbps plan. But you might be surprised that its fastest plan, Gigabit, tends to offer the best price for the speed you get.

So while it might be easy to pinpoint which internet package has the lowest cost per month, finding the best bang for your buck is another story.

Xfinity internet prices depend on where you live, but if you dig deep enough, you’ll find some high-value plans that won't have you overpaying for extra speed. Let's dig into the pricing, internet download speeds, and price per Mbps for Xfinity internet plans available across the US.

Is Xfinity internet good?

Xfinity is one of the best known internet service providers (ISPs) in the US, and despite getting a lot of flak for its lackluster customer service, it provides pretty reliable and fast service.

We've subscribed to Xfinity internet for several years now, and for the most part haven't had any trouble with our internet speeds. On top of that, Xfinity internet prices tend to start out pretty low—and you might get a friendly service rep to offer you that promotional price again when your contract is about to expire. (This happened to us once.)

But Xfinity also comes with some downsides (just like any ISP): The price you pay depends a lot on where you live, which can make selecting the cheapest plan confusing. Its customer service can make you want to pull your hair out. And Xfinity still caps your data at 1.2 TB—probably not a deal-breaker for most of us, but power users, beware.

Cheapest Xfinity plan: Northeastern US

For those looking to pay the lowest price without worrying about what download speed they get, the Xfinity Performance Starter plan is the cheapest in the Northeastern US.

Performance Starter
Data effective 09/01/2021. Offers and availability vary by location and are subject to change.

We recommend most families start with at least 100 Mbps download speeds, and Xfinity's Performance plan ticks that box. But what we really like is the price. For about $35 a month, this is one of the cheaper prices we've seen around for a 100 Mbps internet plan.

But don't forget about the Performance Pro plan either. At just under $40 a month, this plan offers 200 Mbps download speeds. That’s still an exceptional deal, and those speeds are perfect for keeping even a larger family connected while everyone streams Netflix or games on the Xbox.

The biggest downside is that your price almost doubles after the promo period ends. Performance goes up to $80.95 a month after a year, and Performance Pro goes up to $95.95 a month after two years.

If you start breaking down the cost per Mbps, you’ll quickly find that Xfinity's slowest plan in the Northeast, Performance Starter, is the most expensive. The Gigabit plan, on the other hand, is the cheapest price per Mbps.

Our recommended cheap Xfinity internet plan: Performance Pro Plus

The promotional price Xfinity's charging for its 200 Mbps plan is just too good to pass up. It costs almost half as much per Mbps as the Performance Select plan. And those download speeds should cover you even if you run a home office while your kiddos or partner enjoy some game time or stream Paw Patrol.

If you want to avoid the price hike after a year, we advise calling Xfinity just before your second year is up to see if the representative can offer you any new deals.

Performance Starter Plus
Data effective 09/01/2021. Offers and availability vary by location and are subject to change.

However, we’ll caution you that the Performance Starter’s 50 Mbps download speeds probably won’t cut it if you need to work from home or share your internet with more than one person. The more people and devices that use your internet, the more download speed you need.

That's why the Performance plan with 100 Mbps is our pick for the Xfinity plan with the best value here. Download speeds of 100 Mbps are a great place to start for most families and should support a few people streaming and gaming at the same time.

One thing to note: Your price for either of these plans goes up after your first year. The cost of Performance Starter rises to $56 a month, and the cost of Performance rises to $76 a month.

Take a look at the cost per Mbps, though, and you’ll see that the Performance Starter plan is actually the most costly.

The Gigabit plan, on the other hand, offers the most value on a cost-per-Mbps basis. And its 1,200 Mbps speeds can keep a large family connected, plus keep your home security system, smart home hubs, and other devices online too.

But keep in mind that the Gigabit plan requires a two-year contract, and it's the most costly plan out of all those Xfinity offers in the Central US. (And that price goes up to $100 a month after your first two years.) If you don't need that much download speed, you might be better off grabbing a slower plan at a lower monthly cost.

Our recommended cheap Xfinity internet plan: Performance

The promo price for the Performance plan won't ring your budget dry. Plus, the 100 Mbps download speed is a great starting point for two or three internet users.

Just be aware that your monthly price goes up to $76 a month after one year.

The Connect plan comes with up to 50 Mbps download speeds, which is fast enough to keep one to two people comfortably streaming and gaming to their heart’s content. But we wouldn't recommend it for more people—even if you stream only on the weekends.

We'd point to the Connect More or Fast plans as better deals for most families since you get up to 100 or 300 Mbps download speeds. That's enough to support at least a few people and a handful of devices all using the internet at the same time.

One thing to note about Xfinity internet plans is your price goes up after one year. With Connect, you'll pay $44.99 a month after a year, then $60.00 a month after two years.

But when you look at each plan’s cost per Mbps, the Connect plan stacks up as the most expensive. On the other hand, all of Xfinity’s internet plans for the West cost you less than 50 cents per Mbps.

The best value of them all is the Gigabit plan, which costs you less than 10 cents per Mbps.

You might be able to get a cheaper Comcast Xfinity internet plan by following these steps:

  1. Get an Xfinity internet-only plan with no TV package.
  2. Decide what speed you need and choose a plan that offers the closest download speeds.
  3. Don't go over the 1.2 TB data cap—extra or unlimited data costs more with Xfinity.

  5. Call in and see if you can negotiate your monthly cost even if you're already an Xfinity customer.

How fast is Comcast Xfinity $10 internet?

Comcast's $10 a month Internet Essentials plan comes with 50 Mbps download speeds and 5 Mbps upload speeds.

Does Comcast have any deals for existing customers?

Comcast Xfinity offers a bunch of deals for new customers, and you might be able to negotiate one of those deals even if you're an existing customer. We recommend having an Xfinity rep call you so you can talk details, or pop into your local Xfinity store for some face-to-face time.

P.S. You can request a call from Xfinity through its app.

How can I get a better deal with Comcast?

We've had the best luck getting a better deal with Comcast by calling a representative. Surprisingly, the first time this happened we called about a technical issue with our router, and the rep noted that we could switch our plan up a bit to get a better deal.

Ideally you'll want to call a month or two before your price goes up, and you can request a call from and Xfinity rep through the Xfinity app.
