SimpliSafe is a pretty cheap home security system to begin with, but there are a few ways you can knock a few bucks off a SimpliSafe alarm system:

  1. Wait for a sale
  2. Get a free camera
  3. Get a military discount
  4. Buy a refurbished system
  5. Buy a used system

1. Buy SimpliSafe on sale

SimpliSafe runs deals quite often, and you can usually save anywhere from 20% to 40% on a brand new system. If you got the basic SimpliSafe starter kit, then 20% off would take it from $274.95 down to $219.96. That’s a pretty good deal for basic home protection.

2. Get a free indoor camera

When SimpliSafe runs sales, it often includes a free SimpliCam indoor camera as part of the deal. If you don’t want to shell out the usual $99 for a SimpliCam, then wait to buy until there’s a sale where SimpliSafe offers a free camera as part of your purchase of a new system.

3. Get a military discount

SimpliSafe has a discount for military members, but they don’t advertise the details of the offer. Contact SimpliSafe before you buy your system to get the scoop on what they offer military members. You can contact them via phone or email, but calling is probably the best way to get the info you need.

4. Buy a refurbished system

SimpliSafe sells refurbished systems for a discount over buying new. SimpliSafe says it tests all of its refurbished equipment for quality, and it still qualifies for SimpliSafe’s three-year product warranty coverage.1

The packages on offer change from time to time, so you’ll have to check SimpliSafe’s website for current equipment options. But you’ll save roughly 20% over what you’d pay for a brand new system, and SimpliSafe regularly runs deals on its refurbished equipment as well, so you can save even more.

5. Buy a used SimpliSafe system

You can save money on equipment if you buy a used SimpliSafe system from a friend, neighbor, or an online sales listing. And it’s relatively easy to transfer SimpliSafe ownership from one person to another.

As long as the person has discontinued their monitoring plan, you can set the system up as your own using the serial number on the base station. The previous owner will not have access to your system, as it will be hooked onto your Wi-Fi network and will be controlled by your custom PIN, not theirs.
