One of the great things about any Amazon Fire product is that you can install any app you want on these streaming devices. You can install Hulu and other streaming apps, games, and even messaging apps on certain devices that support the Amazon app store.

With a little hunting, you can also find out that several virtual private network (VPN) clients also offer an app for Amazon Fire devices. Search for “VPN” and you will see a few. The problem is deciding which one is the best.

In our testing, we found three that are ideal for Amazon Fire devices because they include extra instructions, support many devices beyond the norm, and tend to work better than lesser (and lesser-known) VPN clients.

1: PureVPN

Powerful VPN that supports up to 10 devices with one account

Almost every VPN supports up to five devices with one account. Some of us might scoff at that—we have multiple computers, phones, tablets, and streaming devices. You might even own more than five Amazon Fire devices just yourself.

Whatever devices you’ve got, PureVPN can handle it. This Amazon Fire–ready VPN supports 10 gadgets with one account, so if you own a Fire TV Stick, an Amazon-powered television like the Fire TV, and a couple of Amazon tablets, you can install the PureVPN client app, and it will keep on chugging.

2: IPVanish

A favorite VPN client that pops right up in the Amazon app store

If you search for “VPN” in the Amazon app store, the first client to appear is IPVanish. That’s because it’s popular, powerful, and reliable.

Like PureVPN, this VPN client works with up to 10 different devices you own, from laptops to the Fire TV Stick.

We’ve tested it on both a Toshiba smart television running the Amazon operating system and on the Gen2 version of the Fire TV Stick. PureVPN is only a hair better than IPVanish because of PureVPN’s clear instructions about using the VPN client on all of your Amazon devices.

3: Hotspot Shield

One of our top picks that works as a Fire app on five devices

Having a VPN that functions as an Amazon Fire app is handy because you can configure all of the settings right on that device—whether it’s an Amazon-powered smart television, a tablet, or the Fire TV Stick.

One unique feature is that Hotspot Shield uses the Hydra protocol to speed up streaming, which helps with movies and shows on Amazon Prime (the service that’s baked into every Fire product).

This VPN supports only five devices with one account but is otherwise a top pick.

Why protect Amazon Fire products?

It’s not pure laziness, let’s be clear about that. Most of us use gadgets like the Amazon Fire tablet because they are convenient and useful. We watch shows and movies right before bed, we pick them up in the morning to check email. We’re hard-working and aware of security vulnerabilities.

The last thing on our minds when we settle in to watch a show like Jack Ryan on Amazon Prime is a VPN client, but maybe it should be.

Because a VPN can protect all of our online activities using Amazon devices. And there’s an easy app to install and use that makes it easy to tweak settings and select servers. You can also use the VPN clients on your home router.

When it’s so easy, the question isn’t why but why not use a VPN?

Easy install

Using an Amazon Fire–approved app on your Amazon device couldn’t be any easier. With our top pick PureVPN for example, you just search the app store, grab the app, and sign in.

That’s it as far as loading the VPN and using it, although you can then adjust the settings as needed and select the server you want to use for streaming. One perk is that you can set the VPN app to automatically connect when you turn on the Amazon device.

Alternatives

Of course, there are always alternatives.

All of the VPN clients we selected provide an app for the Amazon store, but you can also install and configure the VPN on your router.

That means every device you use at home—including all Amazon products—will use the VPN. This makes it a little trickier in terms of configuring the VPN, but it also ensures that you will be protected and safe when you use any device.

Recap: What is the best VPN for Amazon Fire devices?

The apps we selected all offer an Amazon Fire app you can install and start using on your Amazon product, including tablets, the Fire TV Stick, and even smart televisions.
