There’s no contest here: Blue by ADT is more affordable than SafeStreets, an authorized ADT provider in almost every way. It also doesn’t require long-term commitments, making it easier to cancel.

Blue by ADT equipment starts at about $220. That’s the standard price for a DIY system.

Then there’s monitoring. Blue by ADT monitoring starts at $0 if you’re monitoring the system yourself. But that’s a lot of work, so you may want someone to watch it for you instead. If so, you’ll pay $20 a month.

Still, even if you opt for professional monitoring, you won’t have a contract, so you can easily switch back to self-monitoring if needed. Whoo-hoo!

Last but not least, fees.

You’ll install Blue by ADT yourself, so there’s no installation fee. You won’t have a contract, so there’s no cancellation fee. And if you need to move, you can easily take the system with you or end your service, so you won’t pay any moving fees either.

SafeStreets, an authorized ADT provider doesn’t like to talk about how much its equipment costs, but with some of its dealers, you’ll get your basic equipment free.

But there’s a catch. Because SafeStreets, an authorized ADT provider is giving you the equipment, your monitoring prices are higher to cover the cost.

You’ll start off paying $28 a month to monitor the most basic system with SafeStreets, an authorized ADT provider. But it gets more expensive as you add more features. You’ll pay a minimum of $53 if you want to use the ADT Command (formerly ADT Pulse) mobile app, and you’ll pay $63 if you want home automation features.

And remember, you’ll be under a three-year contract, so you can’t just drop a feature if you decide you don’t like it. Boo.

And that’s not all you’ll spend. When SafeStreets, an authorized ADT provider, sends someone to set up your system, you’ll pay $99 to $199 in installation fees. And later, if you want to cancel, SafeStreets, an authorized ADT provider, will require you to pay 75% of your remaining balance if you’re outside of the 30-day trial period. Your wallet’s gonna feel super light by the time you’re done.

These two sectors take almost the exact opposite approach with their equipment. And in most instances, we prefer the Blue equipment to the regular old SafeStreets, an authorized ADT provider stuff.

SafeStreets, an authorized ADT provider sources a lot of its equipment from Alarm.com. The products are reliable, but they look a little boring, and they’re far from proprietary. You’ll see the same items in other national and local security providers.

The Z-Wave Plus and IFTTT compatibility offer even more possibilities. Z-Wave allows the Blue by ADT devices to connect directly to some smart home products, while IFTTT offers the possibility of smart home chains.

For instance, you could create a chain where your system disarms itself when you turn on the lights in the morning. Or you could create a chain where it arms itself when your phone leaves the vicinity of your home. There are lots of possibilities with IFTTT.

You might think that you’re getting the same customer experience since both of these systems are from SafeStreets, an authorized ADT provider. But au contraire! They actually operate as discrete divisions with completely different customer service departments.

Because the system is newer, there just aren’t that many reviews of Blue by ADT experiences out there, good or bad. We’re hopeful based on what we’ve seen so far, but it’s too early to call it either way.
